If we were were in front of Flylight we would approach slowly, pause, raise our arms, let our head drop back, turn away. We would move back, look over our shoulder, approach again, a scarf in our hands now, trailing us, then move closer, this time to the side. Then we would watch. We would take our dress, hold it in each hand, lifting it ever so slightly off our ankles, and with sweeping motions move around FlyLight, inviting her to join our dance. What would be the light of our duet?

We had neglected to share with you one of our more recent delights…

We had a desire and then we sighed, releasing it, trusting it would come to us when the time was right.

The time was right shortly thereafter. As unassuming as a falling leaf, it floated into our hands. There – big, heavy, magical, spell binding – it sat before us, as beautiful and beckoning as we had thought it might be. The details, the embossing, the leatheresque binding, the gold overlay, throughout its pages unfolding romance.

We have been smiling ever since. We will share with you, as we are indulging…

Of course we were planning to make a visit. There were some things we wanted to see. But we had not yet decided when. What we had planned, was a trip to the Noorder Markt. What we stumbled upon, was

It was his eyes, peaceful but mesmerizing, that drew us to him. His physique, tall, incredibly strong, made us feel small and at his mercy. We reached out to touch him, tentatively, to feel the warmth of him – he felt soft and smooth. When he looked up it made us quiver, unsure he would receive us in the way we wanted him to. We hoped he would choose us, surrender to us, let us lead. We hoped together we would move beautifully.

We wondered,

how long until he would be

eating

out of our hands?

Prinsengracht

There are these moments, innocent, never planned, that remind us

in the clearest way, why we yearned to return. Moments that, despite their

very simplicity, turn our stomachs aflutter. Moments when we realize

we had been searching for the taste that would fill us

with a certain kind of joy,

the kind only to be had from the first bite of ontbijtkoek,

the first dip of our vlaamse frites in mayonaise

or dropping that first fatty haring on our tongues.

And then there are moments that make us smile a bit mischievously to ourselves,

filling us with girlish laughter inside. Like being ferried across town by fiets,

our lovely friend pedaling from one gracht to the next over its arched bridges,

we riding in back, sitting sideways, ankles crossed,

clutch clasped casually under our arm,

while our hair plays a minuet in the cool evening breeze.

Rider and passenger each clad in 4 inch heels.

This must be the place.
